The Gathering: 10 wicked vans, 3 cartons, live music and a big mob of crazy kids =one real good weekend!

Despite it raining all weekend which is pretty much a given for all music festivals anyway, we managed to have heaps of fun jumping in puddles, squashing people into port-a-loos, cooking dodgy cheerios, drinking far to much and of course dancing in the rain to some brilliant music. That’s the nectar!

The long version…

Friday. Set off in our wicked vans for the little yocal town of Yandina, for a pre-Gathering Festival piss up. After a few wrong turns and a stop at the bottle-o we made it to Yandina and set up camp for the night.

After a nice hearty meal of dodgy super-sized cheerios, starburst lollies and BBQ chips, the drinking began. Three drinks later and this little light weight was dancing on the van rooftops, doing kangaroo impersonations and trying to free pour with not to much success. As the night kicked on so did the rain, so we all fled to the main stage, to find ourselves a nice big, dry dance floor and shelter. With The White Stripes pumping and the drinks flowing, Yandina was clearly the place to be. Those of us, who were still standing, called it a night just before sunrise, somehow making it back to our vans for a nice short but sweet sleep.

Saturday. The Aftermath. I was fine; everyone else however had seen better days. Couldn’t waste a beautiful day, so got out my little gas cooker for a greasy cook up of bacon, toast and the famous toad in a hole. The smell of brekkie coaxed the not so happy campers from their vans to enjoy a nice much needed feed. Spent the morning chillin in our vans and laughing about the events of the night before. 12pm and the Festival begins, people, music, hot food, good stuff. After a quick afternoon kip, we were back into it. The wicked crew and a few randoms we found along the way carved it up on the dance floor (soggy grass) in the pouring rain. Back to the vans for a couple of vodka shots and the rest is history…

Sunday. Woke up in my van, with a pair of handcuffs, packet of cigarettes and no shoes, not a good thing. Despite what some might say, nothing dodgy to report just a case of to much vodka way to fast. Lucky for me my mates kept me out of trouble, cheers bro! After another big cook up, debrief, and look at some shocking photos it was time to head for home.

All up it was one bloody brilliant weekend.
