3,000 km, 5 days, 3 people, 1 campervan! Sleep - Well, there was no time for that! So I hear you cry "Did you just drive for 5 days and have no fun?" Well of course not. We threw ourselves out of a plane at 14,000 feet, we dived down 10 meters below sea level, we bounced up and down a bungy string in Cairns. We also had some damn good fun in our new friend Eric, the campervan. He was not only a car, but also a bed, kitchen, bathroom and shag mobile, but you don't want all the details of that (or maybe you do - pervert!)
We traveled up the East Coast from Brisbane to Cairns with a few trips into national parks and a few trips out to the islands (Whitsunday's) and out to the reef. We found some ace campsites, and only got told to be quiet once, which considering it all was pretty damn good. I would definitely recommend a wicked camper just because it is, well what's the word? .WICKED! (oh how cheesy). My advice for all you wicked campers is to check the roof (there can be some interesting art work up there). we were lucky, but some fellow travelers were not!
I feel the need to touch on the romantic side of this story. Imagine sitting on a long sandy beach, it's about 4 in the morning, you have been driving all night and finally stopped for a rest. As you try to make tea on a gas stove, the sun slowly rises over the sea and fills the world with beautiful colors. Now that is something you don't see every day- and something you can't see unless you have a campervan-Thank you, Eric! I had an ace time, met some awesome people and will come back to Australia and hire a camper again, just for a lot longer! Thanks Wicked! |
