Between Adelaide and Melbourne is some of Australia’s finest coastline. The Great Ocean Road is 243 kilometres of awesomeness situated between Torquay and Warnambool on Victoria’s South-West Coast! Following the coast for the majority of the drive, the Great Ocean Road is best seen in a hire camper or car - a tour bus will only make you cry!
Park your Wicked Camper in sexy little towns like: Lorne, Apollo Bay, Torquay, Anglesea and Port Campbell and chill out, swim, hike, drink, eat, puke...whatever you like!
The 12 Apostles
Created by constant erosion of the limestone cliffs of the mainland beginning 10-20 million years ago, the stormy Southern Ocean and blasting winds gradually eroded the softer limestone, forming caves in the cliffs.
The caves eventually became arches and when they collapsed rock stacks up to 45 metres high were left isolated from the shore. View the 12 Apostles at sunrise and sunset as they change colour from dark and foreboding in shadow to brilliant sandy yellow under a full sun.
The Grampians are Victoria’s best back-to-nature destination, with a series of rugged, ancient mountain ranges that really deliver in the scenic stakes. And while hiking, climbing, riding (horse or bicycle) and fishing might be the most popular pursuits, there are an increasing number of visitors who are making a culinary pilgrimage to the Royal Mail’s much-lauded restaurant in Dunkeld. This region can feel like your own little secret.
The McKenzie Falls are a particular draw for hikers, with an easy loop track that includes a viewing platform, as are magnificent collections of Aboriginal rock painting.
Mt Gambier + Port Fairy
Uncover history in every corner of Port Fairy. This charming fishing village at the end of the Great Ocean Road. Wide streets are lined by nineteenth century cottages, great Norfolk pines, old stone churches, boarding houses and inns.
Mount Gambier is surrounded by volcanic craters, lakes, limestone and underground aquifers and is a great little town to take a break. Make sure you check out the Blue Lake near the centre of town - it’s a crazy, beautiful blue and such a serene, calm place to relax.
