Take a Wicked Campervan from Broome to Perth and experience one of Australia’s most epic west-coast road trips. This route showcases Kimberley surf, endless beaches, rugged gorges, unique natural wonders and vibrant coastal towns, perfect for a long-haul Aussie adventure.
Start in Broome
Begin in Broome, an iconic WA destination known for Cable Beach’s white sand and legendary sunsets. Ride a camel at dusk or explore Gantheaume Point’s ancient dinosaur footprints before hitting the road.
Eighty Mile Beach & Port Hedland
Head south along the Great Northern Highway to Eighty Mile Beach, a staggering stretch of uninterrupted sand and sea that’s ideal for long beach walks, shell collecting and a peaceful overnight. Nearby Port Hedland is a great stop to rest and resupply.
Karijini National Park
If you’ve got extra time and want outback highlights, drop inland to Karijini National Park. Its deep red gorges, swimming holes and rugged ridges are some of WA’s best natural attractions.
Shark Bay & Monkey Mia
Once near the west coast, head toward Shark Bay World Heritage Area. Explore Shell Beach made of tiny cockle shells, see stromatolites at Hamelin Pool and meet the friendly dolphins at Monkey Mia where wild bottlenose dolphins come into the shallows most mornings.
Coral Bay & Ningaloo Reef
Further south, Coral Bay and Ningaloo Reef offer reef snorkeling, whale shark encounters (seasonal), and peaceful waters against a backdrop of desert and sea. This is a brilliant place to stretch your legs, jump into the water and unwind.
Kalbarri & The Coral Coast
Cruise down the coast to Kalbarri National Park, famous for dramatic river gorges and sea cliffs. Don’t miss Shell Grotto and the lookout at Nature’s Window if you’ve got time to explore inland trails.
Perth Arrival
Finish your journey in Perth, a vibrant city with craft breweries, beaches like Cottesloe, and plenty of culture. From here you can explore the Swan River, visit Rottnest Island for quokkas and snorkelling, or relax after an unforgettable west-coast drive.
Trip Tips
- Time it right: This is a big drive — allow 3 weeks to enjoy the highlights without rush.
- Fuel & supplies: Some remote stretches have limited services — carry extra fuel, water and food when you can.
- Wildlife safety: Watch for wildlife on long outback roads — dawn and dusk are busy times for animals. Make sure NOT to drive at night.
- Weather & seasons: Northern WA can be hot and humid in summer; the dry season (May–October) is generally the most comfortable.
- Camping ahead: Popular spots like Shark Bay or Coral Bay can fill up — booking ahead is wise in peak season.
